Nature-Based Regenerative Healing: A Case-Study of Interpersonal Ecotherapy
Summary
This longitudinal case study examines the “Nature-Based Regenerative Healing” (NBRH) model, an ecotherapeutic approach used to help a seriously ill individual recover. The NBRH model emphasizes memorizing poetry, repeating individually designed affirmations to reshape “emotion concepts,” and walking daily in nature. Activities included daily walks in natural settings, memory work (memorizing and reciting poetry), and affirmations tailored to the individual’s needs.
The subject, who had been off work for 1.5 years due to Lyme disease and related symptoms like brain fog and cognitive dysfunction, experienced significant improvements within three months of starting the NBRH model. They returned to work within six months and, by ten months, reported feeling like a “different person” with improved life and job satisfaction. The study attributes the success to the model’s ability to reshape emotion concepts through disciplined mental exercises in conjunction with the healing properties of the natural world and movement.
