Becoming One with Nature: A Nature Intervention for Individuals Living with Cancer Participating in a Ten-Week Group Exercise and Wellness Program
Summary
The study explores the impact of the One Nature Challenge (ONC) on individuals living with cancer participating in a group exercise program . The challenge involves spending at least 30 minutes a day in nature for 30 consecutive days. Participants were in active cancer treatment or within five years post-treatment. Key findings indicated that the ONC group showed significant improvements in aerobic fitness and fatigue compared to the control group. Participants emphasized that experiencing nature helped alleviate hardships and facilitated restoration.
The ONC experience aligned with Attention Restoration Theory, supporting the increased improvement in fatigue. Overall, the study suggests that incorporating nature interventions like the ONC can benefit individuals living with cancer, especially in terms of aerobic fitness and fatigue reduction.
