Eco-Anxiety and Environmental Concern as Predictors of Eco-Activism
Summary
This paper explored the relationships between eco-anxiety, eco-activism, and environmental concern. The study aimed to determine how eco-anxiety and environmental concern predict eco-activism. The researchers used three scales to measure these concepts and conducted statistical analyses on data from 157 participants aged 18-60.
The results showed mild positive correlations between eco-activism and eco-anxiety (0.22), and between eco-activism and environmental concern (0.33). No significant correlation was found between eco-anxiety and environmental concern. The study also found that eco-anxiety and environmental concern together significantly predicted 14% of eco-activism. The researchers discussed possible explanations for these relationships, such as negative emotions causing behavioral resistance, lack of awareness about individual impact, and financial constraints.
