The Impact of School Gardening on Cree Children’s Knowledge and Attitudes toward Vegetables and Fruit
Summary
This research paper discusses the effects of garden-based nutrition interventions on children’s vegetable intake. The study tracked the preferences and consumption of various vegetables among children over a period of 18 months. It was found that involving children in gardening activities positively influenced their willingness to try and continue eating different kinds of vegetables. By engaging in these activities, kids became more familiar with the taste and variety of vegetables, leading to improved dietary habits.
In the survey results, significant improvements were noted in the consumption of certain vegetables like green pepper, tomato, and cauliflower. The findings suggest that garden-based nutrition programs can be a successful approach to promote healthier eating habits among young children.
