Thank You, Katie: Celebrating Her Contributions to Root in Nature

Change is a natural part of growth, and as we continue to evolve at Root in Nature, we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible contributions of our Courses & Community Lead, Katie McGillivray, HTR.

As of May 30th, Katie will be stepping away from her role with the GrowTH Network. While we’ll miss her in this capacity, we’re thrilled that she’ll transition to a new role of Course Instructor & Content Advisor, continuing to teach the Advancing Skills in Therapeutic Horticulture course. Her continued presence as an educator ensures her knowledge and passion will keep supporting practitioners on their learning journey.

"In a field rooted in care, connection and growth, our greatest strength lies in collaboration. The path is always richer when we grow, learn and support one another. This is exactly what Root in Nature has allowed me to nurture, and I am deeply grateful for the meaningful connections I have made. I look forward to remaining an active member of this wonderful community and am always here to support! A highlight of my time with Root in Nature was undoubtedly attending the International People Plant Symposium in the UK this summer alongside Alexis and Kristin. It was an inspiring experience that deepened my connection to this work and to our global community!"

Katie has been instrumental in shaping the learning experience for our GrowTH Network members and course participants. She led the development of our Intro to Therapeutic Horticulture course, Gardening for Wellness virtual experience, as well as our Advancing Skills in Therapeutic Horticulture course. Through her dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment to therapeutic horticulture, she has helped countless practitioners feel more confident in their work, gain new skills, and connect with a supportive network of professionals. Her passion for education and community-building has left a lasting mark on Root in Nature.

Beyond her professional contributions, Katie has brought warmth, encouragement, and enthusiasm to every interaction. Whether guiding members through course materials, facilitating discussions in the GrowTH Network, or sharing her insights on therapeutic horticulture, she has always led with kindness and a genuine desire to help others succeed.

As we prepare for this transition, we want to reassure our community that Root in Nature remains committed to the high standards of education and support that Katie has helped build. While Katie steps away from her GrowTH Network role, we’re excited to continue growing the community she’s helped shape. A new senior educator will be joining us in a refreshed role with a new title, bringing their own strengths while building on the strong foundation Katie leaves behind. We’ll be sharing more about this exciting addition to our team shortly.

To Katie, we extend our heartfelt gratitude. Your work has helped shape Root in Nature into what it is today, and your continued involvement means so much to our team and learners alike.

A note from Alexis Ashworth, Founder & CEO of Root in Nature:

“Katie has played a pivotal role in shaping our community and courses with such heart, insight and generosity. Her work has made a lasting difference to so many practitioners, and to me personally as a colleague and friend. Though she’s stepping back from the GrowTH Network role, I’m grateful that she’ll continue to share her knowledge and skills as Course Instructor & Content Advisor. Katie’s contributions have created a strong foundation, and we’re looking forward to building on that in the months ahead.”

If you’ve had the opportunity to work with Katie, we invite you to share your well wishes and favourite memories in the comments or on social media. Let’s take this moment to celebrate her contributions and the journey ahead.

Thank you, Katie! 💚
